We’ve decided it might be fun to use this page to update our reader friends of our past and planned RV happenings. We hope you will enjoy them, and, as always, your input and opinions are welcomed!
4/27/16 We loaded up the ‘Playbus’ and left our Northern California home-base, heading south. Our 1st stop was Bakersfield RV Resort for a one-nighter. We walked (about 1/4 mile round trip) to Camping World of Bakersfield just across the street to the south. Later, the on-site Crest Bar & Grill was our choice for dinner on the road, allowing us to leave the toad hooked up. All in all, a really easy and fun stop.
4/28/16 We got on the road early from Bakersfield and headed East to Needles, and Desert View RV. This is a small, friendly park, where we unhooked the toad to run up (about 25 miles) to Bullhead City, AZ where we surprised our friends and fellow RVers Tom & Lynne Distler and Dave & Leslie Gladwill. While we knew they were doing the Laughlin, NV Motorcycle Rally for Purple Slice we only just realized how really close we would be in Needles! We joined them later for dinner and a drink at Silver View RV Resort where they were staying. This place is brand new, nearing full completion, and looks to be a genuine Luxury resort very soon! (check it out when you can)
4/29/16 Next morning, and we are off to Williams, Arizona, and Grand Canyon Railway RV Park ! Carlie and I have had The Grand Canyon on our ‘Bucket List’ for years, and this is our chance! We got to the park and settled in by noon, then checked out the little town of Williams. We did this day one, as our other day was set aside for the train ride and viewing of the Canyon. Up early the next day, we met the other 500 + or – brave souls (in the rain), and boarded our train for the Canyon Rim! The ride is a big part of the experience (2 1/4 hours each way) with lots to see, drinks, etc. From the train station at the Rim, we boarded tour buses to take us to several viewing spots along the South Rim. A dense fog filled the Canyon when first we arrived at a viewing point. Practically as we watched, the fog lifted, and we enjoyed almost perfect viewing. Spectacular! Over the course of the day, we experienced rain, hail, and a little snow, but it really didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits! This is a long way from a cheap date, but we felt it was worth every penny!
5/1/16 Next ‘Bucket List’ destination; Wahweap RV Park , Lake Powell, Arizona! Here we will join up with Tom & Lynne Distler (Yep, the same RV friends we met up with near Needles, above) plus another great couple, Barb & Scott Campbell! The Campbells RV here often, and keep their boat nearby for just such occasions, so the next day, we’re on the water! We spent the next two days exploring the lake, and it’s stunning landscape! It does NOT get better than this! I cannot express how wonderful this whole adventure was! A big ‘Thank You’ all around, guys!
5/4/16 As we leave Lake Powell, in convoy with Tom & Lynne Distler, we’re off to Zion River Resort RV Park in Virgin, Utah. Here we will visit the home of our mutual friends Scott & Barb Campbell, who’s company (and boat) we enjoyed at our last stop. Their Utah home is in Springdale, quite literally at the entrance to Zion National Park, and just 10 miles up the road from our RV park. The Campbell’s place? It’s hard to say if the their home or the surroundings are more stunning! We RV’ed here 4 days, explored the Park, did some shopping in Springdale, took a day-trip to Bryce Canyon National Park, and even had time to take in St George, Utah, during their annual Iron Man competition! All in all, hard to ask for a more memorable adventure. You might even say it was ‘Good As It Gets’! Many thanks to our wonderful friends for making it so.
